So of course right after I sent this I found out you can do the persistence setting AFTER initial load but before failing over the cluster.

The thread about Opensuse/virtualbox made me think of something we just ran across recently.
When one is setting up Hyper-V in a cluster arrangement the guests they must be setup in the cluster rather than on one of the nodes BEFORE the initial guest OS load. It turns out the MAC presented to the OS changes when it is failed over to the other node if added to the cluster after the fact. Apparently this wasn’t an issue for Windows guests.
Once you’ve gotten the MAC on initial load of Linux guest you can tell Hyper-V to make that persistent so it stays the same on failover and doesn’t play havoc with your eth0, eth1, etc… configs. We saw this issue on RHEL5 and RHEL6 guests.

check the setting s files for the interfaces in the VM and see if they are set to not start on boot.

According to their site, Virtualbox does support virtio.

Mike,
I have double-checked my settings in virtualBox for the NIC and in the process of restarting the box, so I will see what happens.

Jonathan

If you use virtio devices, don't the device names change? Perhaps that is just
for HDDs, not NICs?
Does virtualbox support virtio?
