I’m assuming this is initial setup?

For me since it is new I would WANT it to check the disks on the initial build. It would suck to have it say “hey these are all ok because they’re new” then find out 2 of them weren’t quite so OK 2 days after I had everything loaded.

If it were simply building a replacement disk in your RAID you would be able to continue work while it was doing that.

It would be such an improvement with RAID hardware to be able to tell it "Hey! These are BRAND NEW DRIVES so all you need is a fast sync!".

But NO!!!! The system must confirm that all bits are in fact nulls while it lays down format markers.

<sigh>really needed this system running 20 minutes ago. With x6 750GB drives it'll be done syncing about 2 am.
