[ale] Godaddy outage

The outage is affecting whois as well. We only have one domain at GoDaddy (luckily not in use yet) and on checking it yesterday I saw it hang at GoDaddy's whois server.

For the most part, no, they use name-based virtual hosts. You could put the IP and hostname in your /etc/hosts, I suppose... then the browser would still send the proper Host: header.
