I have been lurking for a couple of weeks now, and I thought it was time to introduce myself.
First of all, I don't live in Atlanta (but I do come over there often!), so I hope that is not a problem for you to have a non-local member. I come over there frequently, so hopefully I can make it to one of the meetings before long.
So, without further hype . . .
My name is Allen Beddingfield, and I'm the primary Systems Engineer for Linux systems and virtualization at The University of Alabama. I've been working with Linux in one form or another since Slackware 3.x in the 90s. My preferred distro is SUSE (both OpenSUSE and Enterprise)... I would rank Arch and Slackware at the #2 and #3 positions :)
At work, I manage 200+ Linux systems, with most of them being SUSE Linux Enterprise 11, with a handful of RHEL and CentOS thrown in. I'm also the primary guy for virtualization (mostly VMware with some Citrix XenServer and KVM on SLES thrown in). When I'm away from work, I'm a hobbyist with most anything technical. I have never acquired a taste for Debian/Ubuntu, but there is always tomorrow..lol For the most part, I'm a SUSE fanatic :)
When it comes to non-computer stuff, I'm an avid gardener, target shooter, and gun collector. I also have an extensive vintage audio gear collection, and a big vinyl collection.
As for certifications, I have the following: Redhat RHCE (version 6.x), VMware VCP4 and VCP5, LPIC-1, and LPIC-2. I'm going for the SUSE CLE 11 and the LPIC-3 next.
Anyway, that's enough about me. I would love to hear details from others :)
Allen B.
