First thing I do with a desktop system or even attaching a 2nd monitor to
a laptop is raise them up about 6" (or more).

My primary desktop has a 4 monitor stand that keeps them at a position
where I actually look up a bit, it seems to offset looking down at my
laptop and other devices pretty well.

People look at my rigs, say weird things about geeks, and after I make
them sit and use these systems for a few minutes, they find themselves
doing it to their own.

On topic: Linux runs dual or more heads very very well, and I've fallen in
love with how Enlightenment (and many others) treat each monitor as a set
of desktops. I keep xterm on the left, and rotate the right monitor
through different desktops for dev and reference.
