[ale] localhost email fails to go out

So I've been using my localhost to send email ever since I set up this 
VM.  Suddenly, I get sporadic errors where it says it fails to send. 
Just had one email I tried 3 times, 3 failures, then 4th time success.

Any ideas?  Weird.
