First admit there is a higher power – it is called planned obsolescence :-)

I think somewhere along the road of interfacing low voltage computers to a relay that handles 10 amps at 120V that would stop being fun.

Maybe I just need a 12-step program for people that can't throw out perfectly good appliances that have 35 cent parts broke.

Hey, why not take the parts and build your own with a RPi? You could get a laser thermal reader and network it with your other appliances?

You know, you can buy a new oven for probably less than $40 and even a toaster/convection for probably around $100 but if you want to try one last time to repair what you've got, I have two places to try:
Fox Appliance Parts www.foxatlanta.com/<http://atlanta.com/>
and believe it or not, www.Sears.com<http://www.Sears.com> actually has a very good appliance parts listing for many other brands besides the Sears/Kenmore brand (they don't seem to stock anything in Atl, but can deliver it within a few days if in stock).

I would start with Fox, they will be cheaper if they can help you.

Good Luck,
Greg Clifton

But really, I just want my cookies. Doing the Don Quixote thing doesn't make for cookies. Although, going on Amazon and every retail site and posting a bad review might be worthwhile. Is there a Bot that automatically posts reviews to massive numbers of retailers? That would be the geek's revenge. And it saves on postage. And even with the bum thermostat, the thing toasts bagels. It just burns cookies. (have I mentioned I like making cookies?)

And otherwise, the insides of this one is readily fixable if you could just get parts. Real wire with push on connectors everywhere. Built for parts to be readily replaced.

The Brand X unit my kids have had is all steel rods tack-welded to heater elements. Try getting that apart.

Granted, I am of the generation that remembers Dad taking out all the tubes from the TV and going to the pharmacy to test them all, then buying the faulty tube (at the pharmacy, mind you. Bend your young twitter heads around that one...) and taking then all back and putting them all back in and having a working TV afterwards.

I suggest to package that pile of consumerism dung up and pay shipping to the nearest HB office with a note telling them why you are telling everyone on every mailing list why their post-sales customer support is lower quality than a used car lot.

Hamilton Beach toaster oven now burns my cookies to a crisp.

It is obvious that the thermostat, (<http://www.cd-thermostat.com/product/cd504.htm>http://www.cd-thermostat.com/product/cd504.htm) has burnt up contacts and is unrepairable.

This is a $0.50 part which can be replaced in 60 seconds. Push on connectors, no soldering, bada bing, bada bang. And of course Hamilton Beach will not sell this part.

It appears I could buy a container load and have it shipped from China, but given my age, I don't see ever needing that many. They have yet to respond regarding a domestic distributor.

I find no sources for that part, unless somebody knows of an electrical supply house that doesn't show up on searches. This part is probably used on every Hamilton Beach toaster oven made. Thoughts?
