I think the unofficial way of making a hardware RAID card purchase is: take
the age (in years) of the oldest running system your CTO has ever been
responsible for, multiply by 2, round up to the nearest 10, buy that number
of RAID cards to keep as backups. You will either use them all, or make a
fortune selling them to desperate souls who don't know this secret.
