The reason it has affected Meltons is that are food service... a guitar store has deal with it to, but it isn't a concern in terms of rats looping in the food supplies.

I hope it doesn't affect the rest of the stores there; I'm quite a fan of Firehouse Guitars on the other end of the strip. They often have some very interesting stuff in there, including the only Strat I've come close to deeply coveting (I would have preferred a maple fretboard and a traditional pickup configuration, but the dark copper metalflake finish was gorgeous).

What does the AJC article say about its closing?

A Decatur-area restaurant is closed and is looking at more than $100,000 in out-of-pocket costs due to rats its owner contends invaded his space from a business next door.

I seem to recall last month that they were doing a whole lot of work just next door to Melton's and the workers were dressed like they were dealing with some rather unpleasant cleanup inside. Looks like some small grocery store or some such. I wonder if it's related. Kinda looks like it is:

Eventually, the shopping center owner brought in a pest specialist who traced the problem to openings where rodents were entering the building, and to the Pet Supermarket next door, where rats had gotten into pet food, Melton said. Things got so bad, Melton said he hired a lawyer, went to court and got a judge’s injunction shutting Pet Supermarket down on Oct. 20. The court ordered the store to remain closed until it eradicated the rat problem.

Wow... Oct 20th was the date of the last ALE Central meeting. So we were actually there the evening they shut that Pet Supermarket down. Those workers were not quite in what I would call full hazmat gear but they were definitely wearing protective garb of some sort. Mike
