Hey Michael,
That sounds like a similar problem to my Gigabyte and MSI boards. I did
find a thread I believe on the MSI forums on this problem. Someone had
posted that they found that AMD had a known bug with specifically the
890 series of chipsets and 5000 series video cards that had dual GPUs.
They had determined that for some reason with this combination the OS
(in this case M$ XP/Vista/7 64 bit ) ran out of resources and was unable
to assign the board an IRQ. The funny thing about this problem is/was
that nVidia boards worked. I say is/was since this particular thread
started around May 2010 and I only went through upto Sept. Why in my
case the 32bit worked, I still don't know. I have not been able to
determine if this bug has been fixed yet and I got the impression that
AMD wasn't very forth coming about it either, in that they didn't
acknowledge it directly but said they are/were looking into it.
Dan,
Which video card were you using? If AMD/ATI do you have a nVidia to try?
I have an old PCI (not PCIe) one you could try if you live near the
Lawrenceville area.
