Another thought:  get a less expensive TV, and get a PS3 from eBay or
similar that does not have a working optical drive.  You do not need it
for Netflix, and there is also not Hulu Plus available for the PS3.
That's what we're doing for television these days.

The only thing that I have yet to figure out is how to get news and/or
other "live" programming.  We don't seem to get any OTA television
signal here, so that's out...
