Wanna learn Network security?

Well run a Linux firewall/router in front connected off your cable modem 
or whatever and monitor traffic with Snort. Understand all the 
signatures completely.

Run a honeypot of off the network and analyze each break in and break in 
attempt.

Do the  http://www.honeynet.org challenges and understand every step.

Study the logs.
