Don't go dissin' Steve.  I've listened to his Security Now podcast for 5 
years, and gotten tons of valuable advice and education.  I know a bit 
about how he thinks.  He generally knows what he's talking about in 
terms of consumer computer security (and reliability).  On the occasion 
when he misses something, he's quick to acknowledge it and provide a 
correction.  If he says he has an associate who's witnessed SSD's 
burning out during experiments because of excessive swap, that's good 
enough for me until I have some better evidence.  Once I get an SSD, 
assuming I remember this, I'm going to turn off the swap or relocate 
it.  The drive in this laptop is actually a new Seagate hybrid FLASH / 
Spinning Platter drive, so I hope it's not an issue for it.  Ubuntu is 
showing zero swap in use at the moment, so that's good.

I also, a few times a year, SpinRite my hard drives and refresh the data 
in every single sector with read invert write read invert write cycles.  
Keeps 'em purring like a kitten.  We had a long discussion about that 
recently on the list.
