[ale] server troubles (again)

It's in a rack in a datacenter so THAT shouldn't be happening unless
we've got a fan starting to fail and that's entirely possible, given the
vintage of the box.  If a fan is starting to fail, the box needs
servicing at the very least, which may take time and result in extended
downtime.  As Jim has indicated, the box is old.  It's a dual core PIII
with only 1/2 G of RAM so I'm not sure it would even be worth the
effort.  I'd rather swap it out with a better box than to go to the
trouble of tearing it down to diagnose the problem, then getting parts,
then testing, then restoring to service.
