You can upgrade via Anaconda or via Yum. Me, I upgrade via yum. I
generally do my upgrades one version at a time, but I also tend to
perform multiple upgrades immediately sequentially. For example, I took
a number of machines from F12 -> 13 -> 14 -> 15 a few months ago.
I did all the upgrades at once; in between each upgrade I fixed any
.rpmnew and .rpmsave config files, but didn't perform system checks
until I got to the end.
I WOULD like I know what system you plan to replace vmware-server-2? I
haven't found anything that performs similarly (headless operation with
web-based admin and console access).
