[ale] RHEL6 equivalent for apticron?

I think you missed the point – He was saying yum-updatesd isn’t available in RHEL6 which appears to be true.  I found one site that clearly says this package was removed from RHEL6.

Yum search update
Updatesd checks automatically and can notify, or auto update based on config.
