[ale] cd in bash or ksh, how to do this

Are you trying to do a string replacement on your path?  As far as I
know, only the zsh implementation of cd supports a syntax like that. 
(Which reminds me, I keep meaning to use zsh more -- it's so powerful
it's ridiculous.)
