[ale] DVD ripping tools & distro of choice?

I'm looking at starting w/a couple TB's for storage. Will grow from there.
Still haven't addressed redundancy of the data but will cross that bridge
once I know what s/w tools I'll be using.
I do know I'm not building anymore Windows boxes if I can at all help it.
Moving friends off of Windows is more what I'm doing these days and
this project will be no different.
