Right-click on your panel, and select “Add to Panel…”.  You will then be 
able to search for Hamster and it will appear and you can add it.  It is 
a panel applet, not a standalone program, so that is why you should not

Thanks to Jeff T., I just learned of this one a few minutes ago.  It 
seems to be quite nice.  Setup was painless, and I can totally get used 
to this.  It beats using a flat text file database.
