[ale] Ubuntu 10.04 doesn't like my laptop but 9.10 worked just fine on it?

I had the same experience with my Dell x300.  I went back to 9.10, but
I´ve been wanting to upgrade.  Thanks for posting the fix.  I´ll try
it soon.
