My other "love" (aside from Linux) is aviation. I grew-up the son of an
Air Traffic Controller/Commercial Pilot and started flying when I was
8-years old.

How this thread got to aviation I dunno but these are kewl "planes".
The Icon is a spendy little bird fer sure and designed to blend light
sport aviation with jet skis. I think they got it right...just kinda
spendy in my book.

The Moller is just plain scary to me. I hold little faith in mechanical
systems that bear all of the lifting capability of the craft I'm flying.
At least in a helicopter you have the stored energy in the rotors to get
you to the ground in case of a power failure (kinda). Can you imagine a
power failure in this? That's why "they" invented Ballistic Recovery
Systems (parachutes for aircraft).

I haven't read the site for specifics on powerplant or redundancy of the
drive system but I feel much safer in a fixed-wing platform where I can
glide to a safe landing.

Check-out these if you're into wild flying:

Zenith Aircraft Co.

Zenith is based upon the design genius of a guy name Chris Heinz AND
FACTORY BUILT HERE IN GEORGIA! He hails from the French light-aircraft
industry with his roots in the late 60's. His STOL (Short Takeoff and
Landing) design is simply awesome on take-off performance...check-out
vids on Youtube for soots-n-giggles:

Zenith CH-701 videos

You can also search CH-750 (light-sport version) and 801 (4-place) for
other versions. I've even seen these land on mountain sides! Very
kewl!!

Best thing about this design is that it's purpose-built for STOL in
every way. It looks weird but for a reason. It's available as a kit,
plans built or factory built. You can put a standard aircraft engine in
it, a Rotax or even a Corvair engine! Basically the aviation version of
Open Source! : )

Fly low and beat the radar. May the wind at your back not be your own!

Looking forward to the next meeting and the program on IPv6!!
