I did the same until it got hacked. A rather unfortunate incident.

I'm sure you're going to get a few suggestions for a OpenWRT setup. Could
be a good idea. 

My goal is to set up a Seagate Dockstar that I bought from Woot for $20
with a copy of plugLinux and then installing a copy of Shorewall on it. A
fanless 5W 3 in x 3in footprint is to tasty to resist.
