ALErs -
I'm going through the 'Newbie' steps with x86 Solaris-10 (Sun's 05/08
release), with the usual number of bruises. Not strictly Linux, so please
excuse me; feel free to suggest better forums for my questions, too.
I ran a default install from the Sun DVD on an old dual-Xeon server box
with two SCSI drives. The installation seemed to go OK and the files seem
to have ended up on the correct drive, but the /boot/grub/ files still
point to a kernel on the cdrom (my DVD, presumably). The new system will
only boot from the hard drive in mini "rescue" mode, but booting from the
DVD just drops me back in the installer.
I do find and can edit the installed files from the rescue shell.
Can any one suggest a way to crack this nut? I would prefer to verify
where the kernel image should be found and get the correct 'grub' syntax
to boot with it.
Alternatively could I boot the system from the DVD without dropping into
the installer? That would give me a lot more tools to use.
Thanks for pointers and suggestions.
- Mills
