[ale] AND WE'RE BACK!!!

For as yet unknown reasons, the ale server face-planted and severely
scrambled mbr and grub.conf. After remembering _why_ serial port
console is the access of absolute last resort, and some crucial
grub.conf setting tweaks about serial consoles from Ed, the ale tubes
are officially unplugged.
