Thanks for the tip. That worked and Skype is now installed on the netbook.

But Skype still reports audio problems when I try to make the test call:
"Problem with Audio Playback"

Trying to track down this gremlin earlier, I saw a box telling me that various
audio bits were disabled in a conf file. But I haven't been able to find any
such file -- certainly not in my home directory.
