They are probably in the hidden .evolution/mail directory in your
home/profile directory. Each email "folder" is a text file with the
emails set sequentially in the file. These can be quite large files.
It is easier to data-mine them for phone numbers and emails and keywords
than to break them into individual emails again. I have not, to date,
had any luck inserting these files into alternate email profiles. The
folder headings do show up in the Evolution client, but they show as
empty folders.

Subject: [ale] Recovering Evolution from external device
Date: Sun, 27 Dec 2009 08:15:59 -0800 (PST)
I had a system crash in an earlier version of Ubuntu that is on a dual
boot drive with XP. (note I didn't have to mention the vendor. Everyone
knows who it is.) For some reason I haven't been able to determine yet,
the root partition is apprently corrupted, and the system won't boot
from the Ubuntu installation.
I have installed another drive in the laptop (Lenovo X60S), and have
installed Kubuntu 9.10 with no problems. I now need to recover the
Evolution mail that was on the old system, as it has several very
important emails that I have saved.
I know how I would have to backup the Evolution setup and mail files if
the drive was used as the active operating system, but I now have to try
to recover this data from the old drive in an external drive housing via
USB. I have been able to retrieve all of the other files from the drive
that I need, but don't want to install a new operating system in the
dual boot mode until I have recovered these Evolution files.
Can someone provide some guidance as to how best to do this?
Thanks!
Dan
