[ale] Recovering Evolution from external device

I had a system crash in an earlier version of Ubuntu that is on a dual boot drive with XP. (note I didn't have to mention the vendor. Everyone knows who it is.) For some reason I haven't been able to determine yet, the root partition is apprently corrupted, and the system won't boot from the Ubuntu installation.

I have installed another drive in the laptop (Lenovo X60S), and have installed Kubuntu 9.10 with no problems. I now need to recover the Evolution mail that was on the old system, as it has several very important emails that I have saved.

I know how I would have to backup the Evolution setup and mail files if the drive was used as the active operating system, but I now have to try to recover this data from the old drive in an external drive housing via USB. I have been able to retrieve all of the other files from the drive that I need, but don't want to install a new operating system in the dual boot mode until I have recovered these Evolution files.

Can someone provide some guidance as to how best to do this?

Thanks!

Dan
