Open office.
I have written 2 books in openoffice.org and it works great for that.
I don't care much for the collaboration tools because they do not give
you or your collaborators clear thoughts.
Someday when I have lots more time, I want to learn TeX, but it has
always looked like learning another markup language (so far).
I have heard some rave reviews for the newest M$ Office, but I have not
heard anything that suggests it will be useful in my particular writing
specialty.
