Chances are good that your existing turntable is much better quality
than the USB ones. You can get a preamp that will sit between your
existing turntable and your soundcard at a very reasonable price.
I paid around $25 for a TC-400 Audio Preamp from phonopreamps.com,
and I'm quite happy with it.

(Disclaimer: I'm not exactly a foaming-at-the-mouth audiophile, so
