Open source media center projects could use expertise in both database
management and graphics; most use graphical interfaces to access a
database(s) of media content.

In particular, MythTV uses MySQL. The latest "media darling" is XBMC
and the Boxee project. I couldn't find the source code for Boxee. I
suspect that it is not released yet as the project is still in Alpha
testing -- this is no excuse however.
