Have you tried Mandriva recently? Some of the best GUI admin tools of any 
distro -- and the rest ain't /that/ bad.

Command line stuff is still there and fully functional. Plus unlike in years 
past, you can now switch between them without breaking stuff.

As far as remembering obscure commands, bash history is a life saver for me. 
Just scroll back till you find the one your looking for. I even periodically 
go in* and remove all the "su"s "cd"s and "ls"s so I can find the important 
stuff faster.
