[ale] 2nd try. First never made it. Looking for a simple method to generate Spanish language characters.

Okay, I got it. This will map the "Windows key" to the Multi_key:

xmodmap -e "keycode 0x73 = Multi_key"

After creating that mapping (or whatever you choose to map to the
Multi_key), you can type Multi_key + ' to put a tick over the next
character. For example: é

And for an umlaut, Multi_key + ". E.G. this is über cool.
