[ale] Fedora 9

I had a glitch on resart with my ati graphics laptop but a drop to init 3
and manually starting X as root cleaned up the xorg.conf file.

A couple of big pluses for F9:

reconnecting wireless after a suspend or hibernate "just works" now (used to
require a module reload which was root privs - not good for normal users);.

atheros a/b/g in the distro so no more digging up madwifi code

Network Manager supports EVDO cell modem!

I've been running preview9 on my work laptop for the past week. The tickless
kernel patch has (with some other power management tweaks) extended battery
life out another hour or so. Setting idle time to 1 minute and dim the
backlight is a nice feature. Working NM means a suspend is not as
troublesome to awake from.

They _still_ have every directory window open a new one when system
browsing. It's an easy fix but it's either know the gconf-2 cli or get
gconf-editor as there is now way to configure it otherwise.

Caveat: I had a F8 setup with encrypted hard drive. F9 noted the encryption
and prompted for the password during the setup phase before drive config. In
drive config, I told it to wipe all partitions, encrypt drive and create the
stock setup. It crashed. Rebooted and did it again but this tme it didn't
ask for unlock password and it ran successfully. Wireless was not available
during the install but "just worked" once fully installed.

Every generation the distros just keep getting better! F9 has a bunch of
default folders for users (copied from Mac and winders, OK, OK) and the
Downloads folder is nicely linked to Firefox download action Documents to
OpenOffice, Music to Rythmbox, etc.
