The funny thing is there was once an application that yours truly had to
support and the training class for its programming was all in emacs.
After I got back to my office I promptly switched to doing all the
customization with vi and never felt I was missing anything.

Difference between Admins and Programmers - Yep - it is always the
programmers that ask for it.  Having been an Admin since 1991 I've heard
the request only a dozen times which makes me think that it is not even
ALL programmers that love it but merely a few die hards.

Everyone has preferences.  I've even had people ask for nvi on Linux
which made me shudder.   Luckily I was able to show that the specific
need they had (editing long lines) was more easily accomplished in vim.
