I'm running debian testing (lenny). The old machine had an
AMD Athlon @ 1 GHz with 400 or so MB of RAM. The
new machine is a Pentium 4 @ 2.2 GHz with 512 MB RAM.

The refurb came with a 40 GB PATA drive, but I installed
my 250 GB drive from the old machine.

The refurb had a Compaq motherboard that actually looks
pretty cool. (I swore off Compaq in the late nineties, so I
don't know what I expected.) The chassis is also neat. It
has subassemblies that fold out from the main box for easy
access to parts. The space savings from the smaller chassis
are nice.
