I found this on the maemo users mailing list and thought you guys might be
interested. There is no mention of maemo in the announcement, but another
person on the mailing provided a link to a webcast[1] where Kai Oistamo (VP
of Nokia devices) said:

"I want also to make clear that the key driver for Nokia doing this
acquisition is not to develop a Linux-based mobile device. This
acquisition really is enhancing and making even more competitive S40,
S60 and Maemo platforms [...] Maemo will continue to be based on Gnome
[...] and S40 and S60 will evolve with Qt"


I just got a N800 for christmas and I'm liking it so far, with the one BIG
exception of Nokia's repositories being a total mess. I'm glad they're
looking to improve the Symbian *shudder* devices though.
