The small dedicated raid-1 capable systems I've seen come with the
drives built-in and typically are sold as small NAS units. (Not sure
if any of those have USB or not.)
The coolest thing out there that I've seen and does data-protection
and USB is Drobo. It's a bit expensive ($349 min.), but drobo is
worth checking out.

FYI: If you buy the drives from them, its $200/TB drive which is
pretty good but you can find them cheaper if you hunt around.
