[ale] cant traceroute to debian.org

is it me, or is something wrong with my network?
I was trying to follow along with a guide that creates a debian LiveCD.
the command fails, connecting to ftp.us.debian.org
( this is the page I am following, doing the lh_build:

web & email seem fine..
