[ale] [OT] Date change proposal

THERE's and idea!

Controversial date is in the eye of the beholder. People who object to
B.C. for Before Christ and A.D. for Anno Domini (year of his reign or as
some have it After Death) long ago began writing C.E. (Common Era) for
the latter and B.C.E. (Before Common Era) for the former.

In this country we have school boards everywhere continually try to
replace evolution with creationism (or at least try to add it alongside)
to science books. We've also had the Chief of the Alabama Supreme
Court ignore U.S. Supreme Court rulings calling displays of the 10
Commandments unconstitutional to the point his own court had to remove
him. Add to that the hubbub that occurred when some tried to remove
"under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance and the yearly griping about
"Seasons Greetings" vs. "Merry Christmas" and I think you'd understand
how unlikely your proposal is ever to get anywhere.

Heck, some fought tooth and nail against Congressional imposition of
metric speed limit signs. You don't see many of those these days do
you.

Wouldn't it be easier to just count the number of seconds from
midnight January 1st 1970?
