[ale] small hardware platforms

Per http://blogs.zdnet.com/storage/?p=312&tag=nl.e539 the laptop size
drives should hit 500GB soon, so not so limited.

And the smaller drives produce less heat so they may not need as much
cooling as the 3 1/2" drives.  I will say we often run drives sitting
on our bendh with no fans.  For smaller drives 100GB or less it is
fine.  For bigger drives, they can get pretty hot.  I have not kept
any real records, so this may have changed over time.

We actually built some little external racks from plexiglass with
built in fans.  They do a greate job of keeping things cool.
