I beg to differ.
PBS introduced me to Monty Python when I was a teenager. The first
Monty Python I saw was coincidentally the only one that had a topless
woman in it. Back in those days seeing a topless woman on TV was quite
shocking (and being a teenage boy) "exciting". Having been hooked by
that I then saw how funny it was as well as the Britcom, No Honestly,
which came on after it.
There has been quite a bit of really good programming on PBS over the
years often when there is pure schlock on commercial TV. Even now with
hundreds of channels available via cable I will often watch and re-watch
some of the PBS fare even with the maddening "pledge drives". PBS
locally introduced me to the Carlos Museum at Emory which as an OTP
denizen I hadn't been aware of until I saw a special about something
being shown there.
In no particular order a few of the other things I've liked:
I Claudius
Celtic Woman
Ken Burns' Civil War
The Computer Chronicles
Many of the Britcoms.

Design Squad is seeking candidates ages 18-19 who are passionate about
engineering and are excited to spend the months of June-August in Boston
(and traveling as well) tackling design challenges and competing for the
$10,000 prize. Produced by WGBH-Boston for PBS, the program's goal is to
get viewers excited about engineering and the design process.
Apply by Friday, April 11.
