Look at the output of `dpkg -L linux-image-2.6-686`. I really don't
know what your setup is. As far as I'm aware, the Core Duo processors
are 32-bit. But some other responses indicate it might be 64-bit. If
that is the case, I don't have the first clue what package you should
be using. I do not have any 64-bit machines. The closest I have is a
hyperthreaded P4, and it is offline right now (so I can't login to it
and give you "hands on" instructions).

I also don't use the Debian packaged kernels. I compile my own on my
Debian machines. So I don't know how they are configured, or what they
install. I based the package suggestion on the original apt output you
posted.
