I tend to let such visitors know I work at home (I really do) and that I'm
usually armed (mostly for raccoons and squirrels though, a .38 and .22
with shot, but the .45 is never far away).

Having a nearly unapproachable house (on a 30-45 degree hill) except for
the driveway and its motion alarms means they have to cross the beams,
unless they do some serious boondocking (rappel down from the cliffs behind the
house) or rock climbing.

I usually meet/greet visitors as they start walking up the driveway
from my deck, and if they are brave enough to drive up the driveway,
it freaks them out when I greet them from over their heads (the deck is
20+ feet in the air). Spooks most people out.

The real question:

Anyone have any experience with PlutoHome or any other
way of interfacing to such devices besides X-10 such as Zigbee with Linux?

Googling seems to find a lot of press releases, little information.
