This could be due to a couple of things. First, can you get a DHCP
address from anywhere via a wired connection? If so, then the wifi
connectivity issue could be due to incompatible settings between your
host and your wifi router. To better understand those, tail the syslog
file (tail -f /var/log/syslog) and look for connection events. For
instance, if you are using Ubuntu, look for events with NetworkManager
in them. You will see connection stages from 1 to 5, see what stage it
is getting hung on. Also, just in case you don't know, you can press
"CTRL+C" to stop the "tail -f" command above.
