IIRC, Macintoshes now use CUPS to do their spooling and the like.  Is
there some option that you can tweak in there (perhaps the amount of
memory that the printer has or something) that might help bump up the
speed?  It might be assuming that the printer has the bare minimum
amount of memory or something.
