Ah! You were looking for a _simple_ backup program!

I have to admit that bacula is not for the faint of heart. It is quite
tedious on a first time install. However, it WORKS! I use it in my
office and on client locations. It is nearly as powerful as the big guys
(Legato, Omniback, Tivoli) and is GPLed. The manual is very complete. It
is also very thorough and thus large (800+ pages - don't hit "print" :)

For the one or two machine backups, I don't recommend it. I currently
have 4 machines in the office on it and 3 external client machine
working remote. I also have a 10 system setup on it. It supports many,
many tape drives (if it runs in Linux it will work for this) as well and
numerous library systems (my VXA 1x10 packetloader works perfect!).

Bacula supports bare metal recovery. Mondo is a bare metal recovery that
is much easier to setup and use.
