My children went to Gwinnett County Schools, and with reasonable parental guidance, we didn't have any druggies or any other social problems. As with all schools, you need to be aware of the potential for gangs and other "organizations", but parental involvement is the key to those issues.

We live in an ethnically mixed world, with a broad variety of nationalities, but we have had absolutely zero problem with anyone in any neighborhood we've lived in. Again, we did some research before we bought our homes.

We don't have to have the big house, either. We won't move a log way though, as we have too many friends and there are too many good restaurants in the area.

I agree with Dan, I've lived in Gwinnett almost 10 years. Like anywhere
else there are bad sections and good sections. I live just on the county
side of Lawrenceville north of the infamous 316. If you're into good
eats we have our share of places and more on the way. When I first move
here we had only one Japanese Steak House/Sushi Bars in the area, now we
have 3. Two Mexican resturants, had lost one but recently gained back 2
more with the 2 new ones in the same shopping center. A fair amount of
Asian cuisine (Thai, Korean, and whatever), Hooter's finally and we just
got a Starbuck's and soon a Carabou's. We even have 2 steak houses. As
far as living places, the rental communities are generally very good, as
far as owning single family housing, there are some decent looking
communities, but I personally would probably want to buy in around the
Grayson, Snellville area. Also not far from there is supposed to be the
counties best High School. I'm not sure about the feeder schools (Elem.,
Middle). Unfortunately the name slips my memory but it's the other HS of
the Snellville area other than Shiloh.
As far as traffic goes, it's can be bad. Not as bad as what I've
experienced in LA but close. My really bad experience in LA was when I
wnet to visit a cousin of mine who lived off of the Ventura Freeway. I
was in Torrence on business, and at the suggestion of my office staff,
left at 3:30, did not get to my cousin until 8:30. I left her place
around 11:30 and got back to my hotel back in Torrence by 12:10. Talk
about parking lots, the 405 just creeped from LAX to the 101 and did not
open up again until I got to the exit I got off at. Just remember one
thing, about ATL traffic, on holiday weekends rush hour starts around
2PM and can last in some areas until 9PM or later.
Hope the drive is smooth. Watch out for I20 between Birmingham and the
GA line if you come in that way. Some of the truckers like to play games
with cars on the hills, I had gotten stuck by about 3 of them back in 99.
