Maybe for the same reason they limited base memory to 640 K for years
and forced you to use Extended or Expanded memory techniques to use
technology beyond the original IBM PC XT in DOS?

 

Amazing - you'd think with all those patents Linux is violating
according to M$ that Linux would have the same issues...

Wow.  Is that still stuck in the dark ages?

Why would they still have a rather artificial 4 GB restriction on the
system?  That's pretty sad.
