[ale] Linux supported USB modem

I have a new Dell server that only has PCI-express slots in it.
Therefore the PCI hardware modem that I have in my current qpage server
cannot be moved over to it. In the interest of expedience, I wanted to
just hang a usb-modem off the unit and call the matter done. Does anyone
know of a usb-modem that works with Linux? in particular Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 4.X?

i found a few links that lead me to believe that this shouldn't be too hard:
http://debaday.debian.net/2007/04/20/most-an-alternative-and-powerful-pager-program/
says that if the modem follows the right standard then I should be able
to compile a kernel module in and be good to go. Although I couldn't
find that particular option in the .config file for the
2.6.9-42.0.10.ELsmp kernel that I am running.

This link
http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index.php/id;921278514;fp;512;fpid;1626109420
says that the Netcomm Roadster II 56 USB modem works but doesn't appear
to be available any longer through vendors.

If I can't find a user modem, I'll probably end up using an external
serial and using a usb-to-serial adapter. :-(
