That's why Al Gore invented "yum".
yum install newthingy
Dependency hell is mostly a thing of the past with yum.

No. That's not the way rpm works. Here is a better example:
rpm -i newthingy
package newthingy requires package thingylib
rpm -i thingylib
package thingylib requires newthingy

I will order SW12 today.
I'm quite happy running SW11 on several desktops, including laptops,
as well as servers. Slackware offers smaller desktops that start up
much faster than the other "everything and the kichen sink Distros".
